How To Create A Organizatinal Chart

Any business that has high hopes of becoming more efficient in day-to-day operations will use one of the organization chart programs available to them. There are many different chart programs on the market today and deciding between them can be a tough decision. Microsoft Office has long been the staple for creating basic organized charts and it has long been one of the cheapest options. However, many project managers who are creating a chart on the Office program for the first time struggle with doing it right. Here's a brief overview on how to create an organization chart with Office:

1. Use Visio. If you have the 2003 version of Microsoft Office then you should use the Visio 2003 option that comes with the program. This will most likely be in the set of CDs that you get when you first purchase Office and it should be downloaded separate from the other applications. Visio allows you the greatest flexibility with chart features, including different shapes, designs and layout options. If you have Visio then you already have one of the best organization chart programs, if you don' have it you can still create charts with Office using other tools.

2. Use Excel, Word and PowerPoint. If you don't currently have Visio but you want to make a chart using Office you still have options with Excel, Word and PowerPoint. Each one of the three has specific tools that allow you to create different types of charts. Check with the chart toolbar to see what options you have regarding the layout and chart shapes. It won't matter much which application you use out of the three because they all offer similar results; just use what you are most comfortable with.

3. Use publisher. If you are uncomfortable using either of the above options you can always use Microsoft Publisher. Publisher lets you create simple diagrams using AutoShape options. Publisher works best if you don't have a very complex need or if you are just looking for the easiest way out. Publisher is also used frequently when an individual makes a chart in another application (Visio, Excel, Word, and PowerPoint) and copies it into Publisher to touch it up. Microsoft Publisher can help enhance the look of the organizational chart.

Microsoft Office comes inclusive with many of the top design options but many people just don't take the time to really examine them. Most people would benefit from using these programs as opposed to going out and purchasing another more expensive program that has the same features.

Organization chart programs basically are designed to help a business graphically represent the way their management operates within their organization. Unless the business is in the art/ design industry there probably isn't a need for a more complex version of chart software. Above are the easiest solutions to creating user-friendly charts with a few Microsoft Office options. Many businesses can do most of their day to day operations with only Office.
