Flowchart software is one of the best visual ways to check out data in an information processed system. These charts show the exact operations that are performed, including the sequence in which they happen. Why do people use flowcharts? Flowchart software is typically utilized by businesses that are looking for the most efficient way to perform certain tasks. These charts are internationally recognized so they even work across language borders, which is especially helpful for an international business that needs help showing their progresses. Flowcharts are often thought of in the same manner as the blueprint of a building. The blueprint is drawn for the building before construction is started, just in the same way that flowcharts are developed before a business begins with a project.

There are two types of flowcharts that are most frequently used among businesses, high level flowcharts and detailed flowcharts. Let's take a closer look:

High level flowcharts: High level flowcharts, which are also known as top down flowcharts, show all the bigger steps that are made along the business process. It doesn't break down the minor adjustments or the smaller steps; it only shows the major improvements. High level charts are known as the bird's eye view and while they may some of the smaller steps (sub-steps) they most often show the basic picture. Why are high level charts so useful? They do a great job of identifying the indicators that led to success and they even show specific team members that were involved. The ideal high level flowchart typically only shows four to six boxes. No matter how big the project was or how many years it took to complete, a high level flowchart should only use a few boxes. These flowcharts can add smaller sub-steps as well, but they are much more insignificant in the overall picture.

Detailed flowcharts: Detailed flowcharts are the second most frequently used form of flowchart and they are where all the detail is. All the steps, major and minor, are mapped out in fine detail showing all of the activities, decisions, waiting periods and tasks that were done and re-done. Since these flowcharts include nearly all the steps of a businesses project it takes a much longer time to examine and break down. These are great to examine however for inefficiencies. Say a business completed a project which they plan to do again in the future. A detailed flowchart can point out all the flaws in the first project so that they can be adjusted for the future. Detailed flowcharts are a great reference for clients to have as well because it gives them a tangible analysis of what occurred.

Flowcharts in general are a great organizational tool that business heads can use no matter what project they go into. A flowchart aids the business and the cliental that is involved in the process (if applicable). Most businesses make good use of both types of flowcharts, the high level charts for quick analysis and the detailed charts for a more lengthy look at the process.
